The Fall term seems to have flown by and we are already in December with snow! Some other exciting news is that the Makerspace is now open Monday - Thursday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. We are seeing more students pop by each day, and would love to meet or reconnect with you.

User Experience Testers Needed
|
|
|
Do you have an eye for detail and enjoy giving honest feedback? We’ve got the opportunity. Volunteer to participate in our user experience (UX) testing for our new Makerspace web site. We need 5-7 people in January/February for a 2-3 hour commitment. Participants will receive a Tim Hortons gift card. If interested, please contact us at makerspace.utsc@utoronto.ca.

Critical Making – Checking our Biases

This week, I was browsing Stanford’s dSchool web site. It was filled with lots of interesting resources and inspiration. One section I gravitated to was a tool called the Critical Lens Group Protocol. This sound-based tool guides teams in analyzing a prototype or any design through an equity-focused lens. Introduction to 3D Design
|
|
This session introduces you to 3D design using Tinkercad, a free design platform that is great for beginners. At the end of the workshop, you will have created a basic object that is ready to be 3D printed.

Introduction to Stop Motion
|
|
Learn the basics for creating a Stop Motion video using Stop Motion Studio app and a mobile phone or tablet. At the end of the workshop, you will have knowledge of the tools, software and steps needed to make a basic Stop Motion video. The best way to participate in the session is to download the app on your phone or tablet, and follow the presentation on another device.

Arduino Basics

|
This hands-on session will introduce you to the basics of Arduino using a virtual kit. At the end of the workshop, you will have a general understanding of circuitry and how to create a simple circuit using Arduino.

Introduction to WeVideo
|
WeVideo is a cloud-based editing platform that allows you to create digital productions such as videos, podcasts and presentations. This introductory workshop will demonstrate basic functions of the platform. All are welcome to attend the workshop but access to a licensed version is limited to current UTSC students, staff and faculty.

Need to record a podcast? The UTSC Library Makerspace now has a Maono USB microphone that can be borrowed to create your digital project. The easy-to-use mic kit includes a pop filter to remove any unwanted popping sounds. We also have a set of headphones available to borrow.

What Are You Making?
|
|
Show us what you’ve been making! Throughout the semester we would love to know what you are making for class or just for fun. Submit a photo and a short description of your creation (e.g. what you did, what equipment you used, etc.) If your resource is selected to be highlighted you will receive a Tim Horton’s gift card.
