As COVID-19 continues to evolve, we made the challenging decision to suspend in-person visits to the Makerspace until at least January 30. However, to continue to support our community we will provide 3D printing and equipment lending in a modified format. Please reach out to us at makerspace@utsc.utoronto.ca for support with your project. At this time, we are prioritizing projects that are aligned with curricular, research or entrepreneurial outcomes.

Although our physical space is temporarily closed, we have a new set of virtual workshops as well as our inaugural Stop Motion Film Festival to spark creativity and engagement. Check out details below.

Interested in making a short film? Familiar with stop motion? Submissions are now being accepted for the UTSC Library Makerspace 2022 Stop Motion Film Festival. Holiday fun with students in residence

In December of 2021 we held a holiday Makerspace residence event at the Joan Foley Hall. We offered 3D printing demonstrations, holiday ornament making, custom button making, and a photo booth wall. Two years ago this January, I was introduced to the Innovation Hub at the University of Toronto. Although this unit is housed at the St. George campus, I was welcomed at their 10-week, Design Thinking Experience Program. Introduction to 3D Design
|
|
This session introduces you to 3D design using Tinkercad, a free design platform that is great for beginners. At the end of the workshop, you will have created a basic object that is ready to be 3D printed.

Introduction to 3D Printing
|
|
This is an introduction to the tools and techniques for 3D printing. At the end of the workshop, you will have general knowledge of the principles, tools and best practices for 3D printing. Note: Attendance is mandatory if you are interested in accessing the 3D printers at the Makerspace.

Arduino Basics
|
|
|
|
This hands-on session will introduce you to the basics of Arduino using a virtual kit. At the end of the workshop, you will have a general understanding of circuitry and how to create a simple circuit using Arduino.

Introduction to Stop Motion
|
|
Learn the basics for creating a Stop Motion video using Stop Motion Studio app and a mobile phone or tablet. At the end of the workshop, you will have knowledge of the tools, software and steps needed to make a basic Stop Motion video. The best way to participate in the session is to download the app on your phone or tablet, and follow the presentation on another device.

Introduction to WeVideo
|
|
WeVideo is a cloud-based editing platform that allows you to create digital productions such as videos, podcasts and presentations. This introductory workshop will demonstrate basic functions of the platform. All are welcome to attend the workshop but access to a licensed version is limited to current UTSC students, staff and faculty.

You may not know this, but the Makerspace has Lego sets and even Play-Doh available to borrow. These materials may come in handy if you're interested in making a stop motion film and entering it in our film festival for your chance to win $150!

What Are You Making?
|
|
Show us what you’ve been making! Throughout the semester we would love to know what you are making for class or just for fun. Submit a photo and a short description of your creation (e.g. what you did, what equipment you used, etc.) If your resource is selected to be highlighted you will receive a Tim Horton’s gift card.
