Hello Makers! As the semester ends, our team wishes you well with examinations and final assignments. Creative design and making can help reduce stress and anxiety, so we encourage you to drop into the Makerspace and use or borrow equipment to support your good mental health.
Congratulations to Makerspace users, Katrina Best, Renjie Cui and Noah Farberman for their participation in this year's Undergraduate Research & Creative Forum. Each were finalists in this year’s inaugural Creative Stream.

Cricut in the Makerspace

Starting April 18, the Cricut Maker is available to book in the Makerspace for up to 3 hours. What is a Cricut? A Cricut is a cutting machine that cuts designs out of many kinds of material types. The Makerspace will continue to offer great services and access to equipment during the summer semester. Our hours are Monday to Thursday 10am-5pm (closed 1-2pm). Visit our website for a list of our equipment, as well as information on access and policies.

This month, we partnered with Student Life to lead another Art of Mindfulness session focusing on creating vision boards. We have a few supplies left if you would like to create a vision board, so email or drop in to pick up.

Cricut Maker
We now have a Cricut machine! An electric cutting machine, our Cricut (pronounced “cricket”) is bookable in 3-hour increments. We offer a small selection of supplies to get you started, however you may want to bring your own supplies (card stock paper, balsa wood, fabric, or vinyl). The Cricut Design Space is free software / app used to create your projects and prepare for cutting. Find inspiration and tutorials from Cricut’s Learning site or YouTube channel.

Introduction to 3D Printing

May 10, 2022 12-1pm
This is an introduction to the tools and techniques for 3D printing. At the end of the workshop, you will have general knowledge of the principles, tools and best practices for 3D printing. Note: Attendance is mandatory if you are interested in accessing the 3D printers at the Makerspace.

Introduction to 3D Design

May 17, 2022 12-1pm
This session introduces you to 3D design using Tinkercad, a free design platform that is great for beginners. At the end of the workshop, you will have created a basic object that is ready to be 3D printed.

Arduino Basics

May 24, 2022 12-1pm
This is an introduction to the tools and techniques for 3D printing. At the end of the workshop, you will have general knowledge of the principles, tools and best practices for 3D printing. Note: Attendance is mandatory if you are interested in accessing the 3D printers at the Makerspace.

Introduction to Stop Motion

May 31, 2022 12-1pm
Learn the basics for creating a Stop Motion video using Stop Motion Studio app and a mobile phone or tablet. At the end of the workshop, you will have knowledge of the tools, software and steps needed to make a basic Stop Motion video. The best way to participate in the session is to download the app on your phone or tablet, and follow the presentation on another device.

Podcasting: The Basics

June 7, 2022 12-1pm
This is an introduction to the tools and techniques for creating podcasts. At the end of the workshop, you will have general knowledge of the principles, tools and best practices for podcasting.

What Are You Making?

Show us what you’ve been making! Throughout the semester we would love to know what you are making for class or just for fun. Submit a photo and a short description of your creation (e.g. what you did, what equipment you used, etc.) If your resource is selected to be highlighted you will receive a Tim Horton’s gift card.

Email us and include a photo and short description of your creation and we'll feature it in our next newsletter as well as highlight it on our web site.
