It’s 2023 and with a new year comes new beginnings. Celebrate 2023 by exploring new creative outlets or building on current skills and passions. Check out our latest workshop offering "Arduino: Beyond Basics", as well as a new series on stop motion animation (see details below). For fans of bullet journaling, the Cricut Design App has images to support this type of organizational system. Finally, we have introduced a new certification method to access the Makerspace’s 3D printers. Our Get Started page now includes a link to a short 3D printing tutorial and accompanying quiz.

Introduction to 3D Design (in-person)

January 17, 2023 | 1:10 - 2 p.m., The BRIDGE Lab in the IC Building
This session introduces you to 3D design using Tinkercad, a free design platform that is great for beginners. At the end of the workshop, you will have created a basic object that is ready to be 3D printed.

You Can Build a Robot! Introduction

Learn about the Makerspace's "You can Build a Robot!" program. This session will provide information such as program dates, times and costs, with time for questions.

Arduino Basics (in-person)

January 24, 2023 | 3:10 - 4 p.m., BV498
This hands-on session will introduce you to the basics of Arduino. At the end of the workshop, you will have a general understanding of circuitry and how to create a simple circuit using Arduino. Bring a friend! You may need to share an Arduino kit with someone else.

Introduction to Stop Motion (online)

January 25, 2023 | 1:10 - 2 p.m.
Learn the basics for creating a Stop Motion video using Stop Motion Studio app and a mobile phone or tablet. At the end of the workshop, you will have knowledge of the tools, software and steps needed to make a basic Stop Motion video. The best way to participate in the session is to download the app on your phone or tablet, and follow the presentation on another device.

Arduino: Beyond Basics (in-person)

January 31, 2023 | 3:10 - 4 p.m., BV498
This hands-on session will move beyond creating basic circuits. We will work with various sensors and other signal types. It is recommended that you attend the “Arduino Basics” workshop beforehand or have a basic understanding of circuits and microcontrollers. Bring a friend! You may need to share an Arduino kit with someone else.

Podcasting: The Basics (online)

February 1, 2023 | 1:10 - 2 p.m.
This introductory workshop will introduce you to the tools and resources related to podcasts. You will learn about best practices for creating a podcast, including choosing a format, comparing recording software and selecting the proper equipment needed to complete your digital project.

What Are You Making?

Show us what you’ve been making! Throughout the semester we would love to know what you are making for class or just for fun. Submit a photo and a short description of your creation (e.g. what you did, what equipment you used, etc.). If your resource is selected to be highlighted, you will receive a Tim Horton’s gift card.
