Work Study Mix-n-Mingle

Thank you to Wendy Szeto and Aditya Shiv Talwar for inviting the Makerspace to the Work Study Mix-n-Mingle event. We had a great time making buttons, stickers and 3D prints with the participants.

Showcase

We now have food safe filament! If you have ever wanted to 3D print custom cookie cutters or cake toppers, now you can at our Makerspace. We recently purchased filament that is approved by Health Canada to print items that will be in contact with food or drink. Reserve the Makerspace’s 3D printer today to create your culinary dreams.

Arduino Basics (in-person)

February 14, 2023 | 3:10 - 4 p.m., BV498
This hands-on session will introduce you to the basics of Arduino. At the end of the workshop, you will have a general understanding of circuitry and how to create a simple circuit using Arduino. Bring a friend! You may need to share an Arduino kit with someone else.

Arduino: Beyond Basics (in-person)

February 28, 2023 | 3:10 - 4 p.m., BV498
This hands-on session will move beyond creating basic circuits. We will work with various sensors and other signal types. It is recommended that you attend the “Arduino Basics” workshop beforehand or have a basic understanding of circuits and microcontrollers. Bring a friend! You may need to share an Arduino kit with someone else.

Introduction to Stop Motion (online)

March 1, 2023 | 1:10 - 2 p.m.
Learn the basics for creating a Stop Motion video using Stop Motion Studio app and a mobile phone or tablet. At the end of the workshop, you will have knowledge of the tools, software and steps needed to make a basic Stop Motion video. The best way to participate in the session is to download the app on your phone or tablet, and follow the presentation on another device.

Podcasting: The Basics (online)

March 8, 2023 | 1:10 - 2 p.m.
This introductory workshop will introduce you to the tools and resources related to podcasts. You will learn about best practices for creating a podcast, including choosing a format, comparing recording software and selecting the proper equipment needed to complete your digital project.

Introduction to 3D Design (in-person)

March 24, 2023 | 1:10 - 2 p.m., The BRIDGE Lab in the IC Building
This session introduces you to 3D design using Tinkercad, a free design platform that is great for beginners. At the end of the workshop, you will have created a basic object that is ready to be 3D printed.

What Are You Making?

Show us what you’ve been making! Throughout the semester we would love to know what you are making for class or just for fun. Submit a photo and a short description of your creation (e.g. what you did, what equipment you used, etc.). If your resource is selected to be highlighted, you will receive a Tim Horton’s gift card.

Email us and include a photo and short description of your creation and we'll feature it in our next newsletter as well as highlight it on our website.
