Stressbusters Continue

This little blue origami frog was one of many masterpieces made at our last Stressbuster! Makerspace Stressbusters are short stress-free workshops held in the UTSC Makerspace that introduce you to makerspace equipment and some of the many things you can create. Learn new skills or simply carve out a little creative time with us as the semester gets busier.

Showcase

Papercraft Fox

We've been exploring the papercraft options using the Cricut lately, and after making a very wonky paper strawberry (that will not be featured in this or any other newsletter) Jay accepted the challenge of trying to create a papercraft fox. There were a few missteps and some minor hot glue burns along the way, but after several hours of cutting, folding, and gluing, the papercraft fox exists!

Upcoming Workshops

Introduction to Microcontrollers (in-person)

October 18, 2023 | 2:10 - 3 pm, UTSC Library - Makerspace AC256
This hands-on session will introduce you to the basics of microcontrollers. At the end of the workshop, you will have a general understanding of circuitry and how to create a simple circuit. We have a limited number of kits so you may be working with a partner.

Introduction to Stop Motion (online)

October 19, 2023 | 2:10 - 3 pm, online
Learn the basics for creating a Stop Motion video using the Stop Motion Studio app and a mobile phone or tablet. At the end of the workshop, you will have knowledge of the tools, software and steps needed to make a basic Stop Motion video. The best way to participate in the session is to download the app on your phone or tablet and follow the presentation on another device.

Microcontrollers: Beyond Basics (in-person)

October 25, 2023 | 2:10 - 3 pm, UTSC Library - Makerspace AC256
This hands-on session will move beyond creating basic circuits. We will work with various sensors and other signal types. It is recommended that you attend the “Introduction to Microcontrollers” workshop beforehand or have a basic understanding of circuits and microcontrollers. We have a limited number of kits so you may be working with a partner.

Introduction to Podcasting (online)

October 26, 2023 | 2:10 - 3 pm, online
This online session will introduce you to the tools and resources related to podcasts. You will learn about best practices for creating a podcast, including choosing a format, comparing recording software and selecting the proper equipment needed to complete your digital project.

Makerspace Stressbusters: Bookmarks (in-person)

October 31, 2023 | 2:30 - 3 pm, UTSC Library - Makerspace - AC256
This stress-free workshop will let you design and decorate your own bookmark using components cut using our Cricut Maker. All materials provided.

Introduction to 3D Design (in-person)

November 1, 2023 | 2:10 - 3 pm, UTSC Library - Makerspace - AC256
This hands-on session introduces you to 3D design using Tinkercad, a free design platform that is great for beginners. At the end of the workshop, you will have created a basic object that is ready to be 3D printed.

What Are You Making?

Show us what you’ve been making! Throughout the semester we would love to know what you are making for class or just for fun. Submit a photo and a short description of your creation (e.g. what you did, what equipment you used, etc.).

Email us and include a photo and short description of your creation and we'll feature it in our next newsletter as well as highlight it on our website.
