The weather is hinting at an early spring. Now is a good time to unleash your creativity and reserve some tools in the Makerspace. We are open Monday - Friday from 11 am until 6 pm.

The Makerspace on display

The new renovated space in the library has some Makerspace creations on display. Next time you visit the library, be sure to explore the fascinating projects crafted using the Cricut and 3D printer. These cool creations are bound to inspire your creativity!

The button maker is back in service!

After being unavailable for a couple of weeks, the button maker is once again available to book. Add some fun to your next campus event by having button giveaways. Everyone loves them!

Upcoming Workshops

Microcontrollers: The Basics (in-person)

March 13, 2024 | 2:10 - 3 pm, UTSC Library, Makerspace AC256
This hands-on session will introduce you to the basics of microcontrollers. At the end of the workshop, you will have a general understanding of circuitry and how to create a simple circuit. We have a limited number of kits so you may be working with a partner.

Microcontrollers: Beyond the Basics (in-person)

March 20, 2024 | 2:10 - 3 pm, UTSC Library, Makerspace AC256
This hands-on session will move beyond creating basic circuits. We will work with various sensors and other signal types. It is recommended that you attend the “Introduction to Microcontrollers” workshop beforehand or have a basic understanding of circuits and microcontrollers. We have a limited number of kits so you may be working with a partner.

Podcasts: The Basics (online)

March 21, 2024 | 2:10 - 3 pm, Online
This introductory workshop will introduce you to the tools and resources related to podcasts. You will learn about best practices for creating a podcast, including choosing a format, comparing recording software and selecting the proper equipment needed to complete your audio project.

Podcasts: Beyond the Basics (online)

March 27, 2024 | 2:10 - 3 pm, Online
During this session, we'll go beyond the fundamentals of podcast creation. You'll gain insights into mastering, podcast directories, and RSS feeds. Additionally, there will be a practical exercise involving the editing of an audio file using Audacity. To actively participate in this hands-on activity, make sure to download the free program beforehand.

Introduction to Stop Motion (online)

April 3, 2024 | 2:30 - 3 pm, UTSC Library, Online
Learn the basics for creating a Stop Motion video using the Stop Motion Studio app and a mobile phone or tablet. At the end of the workshop, you will have knowledge of the tools, software and steps needed to make a basic Stop Motion video. The best way to participate in the session is to download the app on your phone or tablet and follow the presentation on another device.

Introduction to 3D Design (in-person)

April 4, 2024 | 2:30 - 3 pm, UTSC Library, Makerspace AC256
This hands-on session introduces you to 3D design using Tinkercad, a free design platform that is ideal for beginners. At the end of the workshop, you will have created a basic object that is ready to be 3D printed. You are welcomed to use your own laptop.

What Are You Making?

Show us what you’ve been making! Throughout the semester we would love to know what you are making for class or just for fun. Submit a photo and a short description of your creation (e.g. what you did, what equipment you used, etc.).

Email us and include a photo and short description of your creation and we'll feature it in our next newsletter as well as highlight it on our website.
